Distribution Center Expansion
Pfizer Inc., a leading pharmaceutical company with a major distribution center located in Parsippany, New Jersey decided to consolidate regional centers into the Parsippany NJ location. Faced with a need to expand their facility, management initially looked at a traditional expansion solution. That option proved to be to costly and time consuming. Because of Pfizer’s favorable experience using Grace Material Handling (GMH) in the past, they contacted us to discuss their space issue. At our initial meeting we were advised that a solution had to be identified and implemented within 6 weeks.
GMH technicians visited the Pfizer center to survey the space and evaluate operational constraints. After conducting a design review a determination was made that existing space could accommodate storage requirements but was unable to handle the increase of essential personnel. We reviewed our photographs, warehouse interior measurements. We determined by rearranging the warehouse floor-plan, installing a free standing mezzanine and relocating an existing in-plant office to the mezzanine floor, we would be able to provide sufficient space for existing and transferring personnel. As a result, space on the main floor would be freed-up to accommodate storage requirements.
We contacted our mezzanine fabricator to review our design and discuss delivery options. We were advised by using their “quick ship” program, components for a 2,150 square foot mezzanine could be delivered within 4 weeks after approving the design. The materials were delivered on time, allowing us to complete the project within the 6 week timeframe.
