John C. Ernst Company Mezzanine Case Study
(Storage Expansion)
Mr. Geoffrey Wolfe, from the John C. Ernst Company, contacted Grace Material Handling to help him gain more space in his facility, and also to consolidate his small parts storage. John C. Ernst Co. is a distributor of process gauges, valves, switches, ejectors, etc., located in Sparta, New Jersey. Upon our initial consultation, Grace Material Handling Company (GMH) suggested that they might be able to gain enough space with Rousseau’s Modular Drawer System and Mini-Racking alone. However, after subsequent visits with the customer, it was determined that a Cogan mezzanine, as well as a Rousseau Modular Drawer System, would best meet their present and future needs.
We assisted the customer as a consultant for both their raw material and finished product storage, to help determine the appropriate quantities of new shelving and the final mezzanine size. Our technicians, with the help of Cogan’s engineers, designed an appropriate mezzanine layout, which met local regulations as to the overall size of the mezzanine, as well as including the appropriate stairs and handrail. It was important that the column placement avoid certain obstacles, including doors and fire sprinkler piping, while preserving a fairly open area for the customer’s shelving needs.
We also designed a new Rousseau shelving layout to be used underneath the mezzanine, utilizing the customer’s existing shelving and the new Rousseau Drawer System and Mini-Racking. We provided the customer with CAD drawings of both the mezzanine and shelving layouts, to assist him in better visualizing and understanding the proposed layout. Our installers worked closely with the customer to coordinate a timely installation that was non-disruptive to their business. The Cogan mezzanine alone provided the customer with approximately 30% additional warehouse space. The Rousseau Drawer System helped eliminate wasted space for small parts storage; the Rousseau Mini-Racking provided them with more space for their stocking needs.
The John C. Ernst Company was quite satisfied with the applied solution, and has continued to call on Grace Material Handling Company for their material handling needs.
Customer Testimonial:
"Because of Grace’s experience and attention to details, the complete project went smoothly and was finished on time as projected. They planned the construction project properly, addressing all of our concerns and needs throughout the project.
Grace was very competitive with their pricing and the quality of the materials for the mezzanine and shelving were excellent. I would strongly recommend Grace to any company putting in a mezzanine or purchasing new shelving or racking systems."
